Portrait Sculpting 2

These pictures are progress of the portrait sculpture that I've been working on.

I started adding hair once when I think It gets a character. After added hair I noticed some parts are not correct compare to reference model, so I changed many places to make them correct using a measure tool. Even though placements of parts get corrected, those are still look different to a model. Which case I really need to observe reference pictures to see how muscles and skins cover on a face.

I wanted to measure every parts again, so I took hair off and start measuring again.

These pictures above, I started measuring again and figure it out how muscles and skin work.

The some faces parts got unnatural looking in this picture, so I took hair off and measuring every parts again.
Usually this process takes time until sculptures looks like a model.

Portrait Sculpting1

I started portrait sculpting for a small commission. This sculpture is about half size or little less than half size of life size.

I usually try to establish planes, and then start adding more clay where it needs to be.
These photos shows adding clay after I finished to established planes. Even though I start adding clay, I still be aware planes, because if planes is not sured, everything can be distorted. I still see many distorted place in this pictures. To take pictures are help me to find points where I need to fix.

GODZILLA 2014 statue final

These are final products of the painted statues. One in left is faux bronze painted, one in right is color painted.

For faux bronze painted statue, I applied matt black spray paint to the statue, then I sprayed clear spray to protect first coat. After that I painted metal paint color using a chip brush and rubbed by a finger. After finished metal paint, I spattered black, brown and fresh colors mixing with naphtha to create more
vintage bronze look. Finally I sprayed matt clear spray for the finishing.

For color painted piece, I painted with almost all spattering technique. And I use thinned  black oil paint for painting small detail to make them clear.

GODZILLA 2014 statue 3

The clay sculpture was molded two parts mold. First, I started to build up clay wall to separate in half. Then I applied silicone over the mold.

After silicone part, I made Hydrocal shell.

I did test casting using casting resin. The result wasn't good enough for what I wanted.
There are many micro air bubbles on a surface of the statue, and resin didn't go in to some spots.

In this picture,  you can see the spots where resin didn't go in.
